Exploring Perceptions of Equity and Resilience in English Language Learners - A Phenomenological Case Study

Submitted with permission by Andre Elliott

Created by PDKWUCC's founding president and current treasurer, Dr. Andre Elliott, the MIME DAY will be celebrating 15 years this spring!!  This festival invites speakers, both live and virtual (for the first time), to enlighten young school-aged children on an American Base in Japan.

The African Library Project brings gently used books to an African community that has lots of eager readers but very few books. Please help by collecting and delivering gently used books or by raising money to help pay for shipping to Africa. It only takes 1000 books and $500 to start a single library (and a little elbow grease!)

I will be donating the books I have written this summer, as well as making a financial donation to help ship the books.

From Research to Children's Literature

I hold structured learning courses for children of all ages using the popular game of Minecraft.  We had a live session during the Minneapolis Resdiency where the staff at Sea Life in the Mall of America talked with us about the animals there. The children were asked to find out when stingrays sleep.  Very little was available to explain to children under 8 about the diurnal sleeping habits of stingrays, so I wrote it and would like to share these fun pieces of dissemination with you.  Each story I write is based on actual field research. Book 1 was written July 4th, and book 3 was completed August 18th.  More stories are currently in production.

Every newsletter features The Founder's Bookshelf.  Founding president, Dr. Andre Elliott, offers synopses of literature important to the field of education.  It is our goal to advance this in adding a book club for chapter members to be involved in.  Browse the archives to access the Founder's Bookshelf.

Why is this so important?  As educators, we need an opportunity to share and collaborate in professionally-engaging, scholarly discussions.

In 2015, our president initiated Face-2-Face, offline meeting events as a way to meet you where you are.  Current and prospective members and their guests have the opportunity to meet face-2-face while our president travels to represent our chapter at conferences and Walden Doctoral Residencies.  Shawna has been known to offer  meetup opportunities even while on personal vacations. Check out upcoming opportunities on our Face-2-Face Events Page
