by Shawna Ebbeson, President
One of the most moving experiences I had on our Hawaii vacation was visiting Pearl Harbor shortly after the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. This historic event has great meaning and impact on my family. My dad served in the Navy for 8 years and my stepmom is Japanese. Upon entering the Harbor, my stepmom was in tears. She carries with her the shame and sorrow on the actions of her people on December 7, 941. We talked with a few Polynesian residents visiting the USS Arizona Memorial that still mourn the loss of their loved ones; civilians killed in the raid. My daughter and I will be studying the attack on Pearl Harbor moving forward and I encourage anyone teaching others about this event in history to incorporate how this historic event still impacts people around the globe today.

Get this special post-residency footage from PDKWUCC President Shawna Ebbeson's personal vacation activities.
Shawna Ebbeson posted:
"We went to the Mountain Thunder Kona Coffee Plantation and discovered all about Kona coffee from growing the bean to brewing a cup of Java. Watch as our tour guide explains the unique qualities of Kona coffee from other coffees (such as Columbian) and what threatens the crops.
To learn more about Mountain Thunder Coffee Plantation, visit their website at http://www.mountainthunder.com/ and order your own bag of 100% Vienna Roast Kona Coffee. It is excellent!"

The huge bird on the right was often found right outside our balcony windows at Paniolo Greens. There were usually 4 - 6 in a group. Whenever you saw one, another was not far behind. The most we counted on the golf course was at 6am where there were 17 of them. My stepmom thought they were the nene birds (on the left), which is indigenous to Hawaii. Nene birds are more like what we (on the mainland) would call geese. They are quite different than the wild turkeys we saw during our stay.

The 2nd day of the residency was rainy. I went back out to take more videos of this guy on our next break, but it was gone.
